Are you ready to sell your home but not sure how to prepare for the all-important home inspection? Let’s take a look at why a home inspection is important to you as a seller and how you should prepare your home before-hand for an inspection!

What Steps Do You Need to Take to Get Your House Ready for a Home Inspection?

Prepare for a home inspection before you put your home on the marketAs a buyer, you wouldn’t dare purchase a home without having a professional home inspector first inspect the house. The reasons why are fairly obvious, you want to make sure you are making a wise purchase and that there aren’t any hidden problems with the house that will end up costing you a great deal of money. The bottom line is, as the buyer you are protecting yourself. A home inspection should be left to the professionals who know what to look for. This is not a do it yourself job.

Likewise, as the seller, when you sell your home, you want to protect yourself as well and make sure that you are able to sell your home at the highest price-point. Before putting your home on the market, hire a reputable handyman to take a look around and see what might need to be fixed. Please understand, that I am not talking about a remodel, but rather items that are just in need of repair.

Look for:

  • Loose electrical outlets
  • Broken electrical panels
  • Dirty AC filters
  • Blown lightbulbs

Small items such as those in need of repair may alert an inspector to look even more closely as he or she might expect other deferred maintenance items.

Don’t Neglect the Exterior of the Home

Fix the small things on the outside of the home such as:

  • Dirty windows
  • Burned out exterior lightbulbs
  • Dirty roof

Failure to perform basic maintenance and cleaning can make buyers hesitate or even pass on buying on your home.
